- DO NOT BE AFRAID TO FAIL.
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO FAIL.
Failure is a blessing.
It’s been a long time, but I’m back.
Let’s start with a quote I discovered recently:
“The only thing a man should fear is fear itself.”
Have you ever wondered why you’re afraid of certain things?
Failure, embarrassment, judgment, etc.
Think about what I’ve just listed - what do these things have in common?
They all hide social relevance beneath them.
Let me break it down for you so you can understand and shift your perspective.
Imagine that you are the only existing person in the world, and you want to learn some new skill - skating, for example (dunno why just stay with me xd).
You go to the skating park and start practicing.
Imagine yourself falling down times and times again - how would you feel?
You’d feel no pressure at all - no fear of failure, judgment, embarrassment, etc.
You get it now?
Your reputation, the people around you, and social presence are the variables that make up this “fear.”
Hell, it may even stop you from progress completely.
Why try something new at the risk of embarrassing yourself and losing your reputation and the life that you have now?
This is the trap that holds most people from taking action.
I won’t try and feed you with some bullshit advice as to how to overcome it, since this fear is technically biological.
It used to prevent our ancestors from danger.
Instead, I’ll tell you how I overcame it, and how you can too.
What I did is very simple - I didn’t talk to anybody about what I was doing until I started becoming successful at it.
I hid it as well as I could and worked in silence.
It may sound contradictory because you often hear most “experts” say something along the lines of, “Tell your goals to everybody around you to stay accountable.”
It may work for some people.
However, every time I talked about my goals, they became more and more distant.
It feels good telling everyone that you’re going to be this and that; it gives you dopamine.
But if your words don’t match your actions, what is the point?
Clearly you need another approach - might as well try shutting the fuck up and grinding in silence.
You are the only person you should stay accountable to.
Even if someone finds out about what you’re trying to accomplish, don’t care about it.
You are working for you, not for them.
Your reputation may be ruined, but remember - IT IS ALL TEMPORARY.
Most people give up because they don’t understand this simple thing.
In the end, the ones that fail and get shit thrown at them are the ones that reach the top.
I’ve probably failed more times than most people have ever tried, and I advise you to do the same.
Reframe your relationship with failure.
I hope it’s been somewhat helpful to you.
Thanks for the read & until next time,
