- Your mind is your enemy.
Your mind is your enemy.
Good Sunday again, friend.
Hope you’re doing well.
This week, I had a lot of new revelations and experienced a lot of mental turmoil.
Just like the world’s economy, a human’s life has its peaks and troughs, and so I went through another cycle.
One of the most important lessons I learned this week is that your mind is the №1 thing that stops you from accomplishing your goals and dreams.
I guess you’ve heard that already, but how exactly does it stop you?
Some of you may already know it, but the human mind doesn't really want to perceive reality as it is.
It wants to adjust reality for the benefit of your survival, which means that it will interpret change as dangerous.
Your mind is very smart when it comes to that.
It will trick you into thinking that it’s right and rationalizing the decisions you make, even if they’re influenced.
You might ask, “How can they be influenced by my own mind?”
Well, as I said earlier, it adjusts reality to its benefit, so very often you end up misinterpreting it and making a wrong judgment.
I’m gonna give you an example.
You want to approach a girl, but your mind starts coming up with thoughts like:
“What if she makes fun of me?”
“I’ve been made fun of before.”
“We can’t risk being embarrassed."
Your mind stops you from taking action.
It rationalizes your inaction in every way possible.
But deep down, you feel a sense of regret that you didn’t take the chance.
You know in your core that life doesn’t give you unlimited chances.
You must learn to reason with your mind.
Notice it, accept it, overcome it.
You may not know it yet, but your awareness IS your willpower.
The more aware you are of these false interpretations of your mind, the more disciplined you will be and the more you will take action.
One of the practices that I like to do to train my awareness is literally sitting (or lying) in silence with my thoughts.
Journaling also helps, but only if you know how to journal.
Write down how something made you feel during the day and why.
Obviously, it’d be good if you limited your exposure to technology and let your mind be idle for some time during the day.
It’ll help you process emotions better.
Thank you for reading, friend.
I wish you a good day.
